Toucan Birding Tours operates top class birding holidays throughout the Tropical Americas. If you enjoy seeing your birds in a small friendly group led by an experienced expert bird tour leader then look no further. Repeat subscriptions speak volumes for a tour company and many of our groups consist entirely of clients enjoying one of our tours for the second, third, or even more times.
Each tour itinerary is designed to facilitate seeing a wide variety (and often a large quantity) of birds, with a good standard of comfortable accommodation and avoiding travelling vast distances daily.
Now in its tenth year Toucan Birding Tours can call on an extensive network of ground agents in the region helping us to organise the most appropriate services for each destination. Some tours require assistance from local guides but every Toucan Birding Tours group is escorted by one of our leaders, familiar with the country and its birds too.

One of our newest tours and already established as a great favourite (see our latest tour reports). An excellent introduction to birding in the Americas as we travel to the point where Nearctic and Neotropical avifaunas meet. Our Western Mexico tour offers Aztec Thrushes in the pine-oak forested slopes of the Colima volcanoes, the famous coastal sites near San Blas and ending our journey with the exquisite Tufted Jays near the Durango Highway.

A tour with a real difference. Cuba does not offer the large number of species usually associated with most Neotropical destinations, but we see most of Cuba’s endemic bird species plus a host of Nearctic migrants during our fortnight on the island. Probably the most relaxing of all our departures with a real Caribbean “feeling” to the tour but we’ll make sure you get those important birds like Cuban Tody, Bee Hummingbird, Cuban Trogon, Bare-legged Owl, Zapata Sparrow, Cuban Solitaire, Fernandina’s Flicker and Cuban Parrot.

Venturing into “The Bird Continent” of South America we can offer a very original itinerary for Venezuela. We’ll start in the Llanos, famous for its wealth of wetland bird species before heading south to the forests of Imataca – surely one of the best places to see that most enigmatic of all Neotropical birds, the magnificent Harpy Eagle. We finish our tour birding Sierra de Lema and the Gran Sabana so join us to find out why some of the participants on our latest tour considered La Escalera the best South American birding road!

We’ll get a taste of all that is good about South America in just two weeks in this small South American country. From Andes (both east and west slope) to Amazon, we may see in excess of 500 species and a recent highlight of our Ecuador departure has been a visit to a small reserve where the owner feeds Giant Antpitta – seeing is believing!

Considered by many to be the ultimate birding tour, Manu is our most popular departure. Travelling from Cusco we head down the Manu Road and through the cloud forests to the tropical lowlands. Giant Otters, macaws at a clay-lick, quetzals in cloud forests and even Inca ruins of Machu Picchu are featured in this tour. Our second Peru departure takes us to the north where the focus is on sought-after birds such as Marvellous Spatuletail, White-winged Guan and three species of inca-finches.

The incomparable Pantanal and its Hyacinth Macaw! No other destination has so many easily seen birds as our Brazil tour visiting this vast wetland. Combine this with the sublime Itatiaia National Park packed full of Atlantic Forest endemics (some on feeders outside the hotel restaurant) and this tour is a real winner.
